| For over 40 years the Puerto Rican Parade Committee of Chicago and La Casa Puertorriqueña has instilled in our community empowerment, encouragement and the wisdom to positively maintain and preserve their cultural roots. Mission / History Since 1965 the Puerto Rican Parade has celebrated over 40 years of existence making our parade the longest celebrated Hispanic Parade in Chicago. In 1982 Fiestas Puertorriqueñas was created as an addition to our cultural celebration, making this six day festival the largest Latin Music Festival in the Midwest. Fiesta Puertorriqueñas has brought the Puerto Rican presence in Chicago to the forefront through its cultural music, dance, art and food. More than pride, these events continue today to bring historical awareness, community unity, and more importantly Latino empowerment. |
